Teej festivity is observed with much fanfare by women in North Indian states, especially in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Three famous Teej(s) which are celebrated by women during Sawan and Bhadrapada months are -


1. Hariyali Teej
2. Kajari Teej
3. Hartalika Teej

Shravani Teej or Hariyali Teej is celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha in the Shravan month. It is also known as Madhusrava Tritiya and Choti Teej. This festival is mainly celebrated by women in which everything can be seen full of life because of the Shravan month. Nature can be seen flourishing.

Kajari Teej is the second festival of Teej festivals is celebrated on Krishna Paksh Tritiya Day i.e on the third day of the Bhadraprad month(Purnimant). This Teej is most popularly celebrated in the Bundi district of Rajasthan. On this Teej, the whole community together, performs the neem pooja and then a grand procession carrying the beautiful idol of Goddess Pravati is undertaken by the devotees with great fervor.

Hartalika Teej is a three day fast, celebrated in honor of Godess Parvathi. Hartalika Teej is celebrated a day before Ganesh Chaturthi i.e on Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapadr month. By praying to Parvati on these three days, unmarried girls hope to get a husband like Shiva. Married women pray to her for marital bliss.
