Noche de rábanos or night of the radishes is a quirky celebration that takes place each year in the picturesque Colonial city of Oaxaca. Dating back to 1897, the festival focuses on giant sized radishes wighing up to 3kg and specially grown for the festivities, which are sculpted into festive themes. The Nativity features highly as do party scenes and although the night-time celebration lingers for only a few hours, the city centre and main plaza are crammed with visitors who come to see the spectacular sculptures
