Bathukamma is a telangana festival that is celebrated during the Navaratris of Dusheera. It is goddess Gowri/Gouri that is celebrated in the form of Bathukamma. This is a nine day long festival that ends on Durgashtami and is called as Chaddula Bathukamma.
The festival is mainly observed by women and is dedicated to Goddess Bathkamma – who is an incarnation of Goddess Sati. The first day of Bathukamma Panduga is on October 5, 2013. The festival concludes on October 13, 2013 with Chaddula Bathukamma.
If we go by the word the equivalent meaning of the telugu word Bathukamma is “come alive goddess”.
Bathukamma songs are hugely popular and women take pride in singing them beautifully. Women and young girls clap and sing the rhythmic folk chants around in small circles.
