The City of Jodhpur in Rajasthan is part of the Marwar region. This city, the second largest in the state pf Rajasthan, is a major tourist destination at any time of the year with its many monuments and lakes. The Mehrangarh Fort, which houses many monuments within itself, and the Umaid Bhavan Palace are the two major landmarks of this city.

During the month of Ashwin (September-October), this city plays host to the lively Marwar Festival. Starting on the day of the Sharad Poornima or Full Moon Day, this festival lasts for 2 days that showcase exuberant displays of folk arts. This festival commemorates the Rajput heroes of this region and recalls their valorous deeds.

All the vibrant Folk Music and Dance forms of the Marwar region are on display here. The musicians sing passionate songs extolling the deeds of the Rajput heroes of this region. The dancers provide enthralling entertainment involving gracefully choreographed dance movements interwoven with incredible acrobatics. An art exhibition for local artisans is also held here during this festival.

It was originally known as the 'Maand Festival', a classical style of folk music centred on the romantic lifestyle of Rajasthan's rulers. These folk artistes bring to life the myth and legends of the area and sing songs in memory of the brave heroes. Other attractions of the festival include horse riding and horse polo. Various other competitions are also held during the festival.
