Ka Pomblang Nongkrem is one of the most famous festivals of Meghalaya and is celebrated  to commemorate the harvest season. It is an important festival of the Khasis who are natives of the North Eastern State of Meghalaya. It is also called Shad Nongkrem and is celebrated  over a period of five days. This festival is Held annually in November at Smit near Shillong, Meghalaya. This is a thanksgiving festival for the khasis for the bountiful harvest and also an occasion to offer prayers to Goddess Ka Blei Synshar for the continued wellbeing and prosperity of the community people. Ka Pomblang Nongkrem celebrated with great religious fervour by the entire Hima Khyrim. This festival is a time for prayer and divination.Ka Syiem Sad who is the eldest sister of the king presides over the ceremonies. The festival has several rituals with the most prominent being the Pomblang Ceremony, meaning decapitation of goats. The goats offered by the subjects are sacrificed to the Syiem of Khyrem who is the administrative head of the Hima .offerings are also made to the ancestors of the ruling clan. The priest offers an oblation to U- Lei  Shyllong the deity of Shillong peak. Another ritual practiced is the sanctifications ceremony of the tangmuri or the pipes as the queen of the musical instruments.
