Lord Vishnu goes to sleep on this day and wakes up after four month on Probodhini Ekadashi. This day comes on the Shukla Paksha of Ashada month of the Hindu Calendar. It is the 11th day of the bright fortnight of the Ashada month and is also called Ashadi Ekadasi. No wedding takes place during this season as it is believed that the Gods are sleeping. At the end of this period the wedding season in many cultures begin. This Ekadashi is celebrated by fasting and worshiping Lord Vishnu. It is believed that this day brings prosperity and bliss into your life.

This day enable devotees to seek the blessings of the Almighty. Like other Ekadashis this day also helps the devotees to attain salvation and freedom from the worldly chores.

Devshayani Ekadashi comes just after famous Jagannath Rathyatra and currently falls in month of June or July on English calendar. Chaturmas, a holy period of four months in Hindu calendar, starts from this day.
