Celebrated By: Hindu (Hindu) Chaolung Sukaphaa also Siu-Ka-Pha, the first Ahom king in medieval Assam, was the founder of the Ahom kingdom. A Tai prince originally from Mong Mao, the kingdom he established in 1228 existed for nearly six hundred years and in the process unified the various tribal and non-tribal peoples of the region that left a deep impact on the region.Asom Divas, which earlier was marked as Sukapha Divas, was centrally organized at Sukapha Bhawan by the Cultural Affairs Department. The Chief Minister inaugurated the Sukapha Divas celebration by unveiling a huge statue of the founder of Ahom kingdom at the Sukapha Bhawan complex. The statue, installed on a seven-foot high pedestal, has been carved out by renowned sculptor Biren Singha. It is said to be the first statue of Chaolung Sukapha installed in the State. Receiving the award, Dr Taid expressed his gratitude to the State government, particularly the Cultural Affairs Department for recognizing his works and contributions in the society. “I will ever remain thankful to the government for considering me worthy for the award Taid said in his short speech.
