50th Filmfare Awards, 2005

The 50th Filmfare Awards took place on February 26, 2005 in Mumbai. This was the awards' Golden Jubilee Year and to commemorate the occasion, this year the award trophy ('The Black Lady' statue) was made in gold. Moreover, a special award: 'Best Film in 50 years' was also presented to Ramesh Sippy's Sholay.

Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan and Farida Jalal were the hosts of the special evening. The grand night was inaugurated with a song sung by Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana (‘Indian Idol’ finalists). Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan made his entry and lighted the ‘50 years’ drape fireworks display. The film ‘Yuva’ (directed by Mani Ratnam) swept several awards for the year 2005. The film was released in 2004 with the primary objective to motivate educated Indian youth to enter politics. Here is the list of categories and winners for the year 2005.
